I want to make sure that you know what a Magicband really is before you either buy a designed one, or get the one provided by your Disney resort. This will be the all knowing guide you need before you get one of these.
Old and New Magicbands
So... What are they??:
Magicbands were created in 2013, and are only available in Walt Disney World. There are 2 different types of bands, Magicbands and Magicbands 2. The only difference with the 2 generations, is the designs. The Magicbands connect to your phone using the My Disney Experience app. The band connects your park tickets, Fastpasses, and if you stay at a Disney-owned resort, it is your room key.

What can they do?
As I mentioned before, they are used for room keys at a Disney resort, Fastpass, and park tickets. When you first walk into the parks, you have to scan your Magicband and your fingerprint. When you attend a Fastpass, you must scan your Magicband. I am not too sure about the room key thing, but I guess that you are able to scan your band to get in. I do know that you can also use your My Disney Experience app to unlock your door that way as well.

How do you use a Magicband?
They aren't too complicated, all you really have to do is tap the Mickey sensor of your band to the Mickey stand located right inside the Fastpass entrances. This is what Disney describes the technology as, "In addition to touching your MagicBand or card to a touch point, you will be required to enter a PIN code to uniquely identify yourself when making purchases. To enter the parks, you will be required to provide biometric identification or show a photo ID that matches the name identified with your ticket. This process helps to ensure that you, and only you, have access to the entitlements linked to your MagicBand or card." Magicbands are always operational.

Where can you get a Magicband?
If you are staying at a Disney-owned resort, they will give you a complimentary band, even though they won't have fun designs. If you are interested in getting a fun design, they will cost extra. If you want to find designed bands, look at Amazon and shopDisney.
